Scott's Gooey Treats
by Kathy Jacobs

Scott's Treats are messy and sticky to make, but well worth the trouble. Read the story behind this no-bake cookie and try this recipe for yourself.

"Scott's Treats" grew out of a series of short stories I wrote about a place called Floating Island. (Some of these stories I had published on Themestream, but they are no longer in publication.)

In one of the stories, a character (Music Bunny) was creating a rather sticky, messy treat to thank another character (Scott the ExploraBear) for doing her a big favor. Out of the story grew this recipe.

Ingredients

1/3 cup milk

3 cups cereal (Rice Krispies preferred)

1 12-ounce bag semi-sweet chocolate chips (two cups)

1 cup marshmallow creme

water

Equipment

1 double boiler

1 large bowl

1 wooden spoon

1 rubber spatula/scraper

cookie cutters (heart or bear shaped)

waxed paper

Steps

  1. Place waxed paper on a smooth surface.

  2. Pour cereal into large bowl.

  3. Pour milk and chocolate chips in top of double boiler.

  4. Pour water in bottom of double boiler.

  5. Put double boiler on medium burner.

  6. Stir chocolate and milk until chocolate is fully melted.

  7. Pour melted chocolate over cereal, stir to coat well.

  8. While stirring, add marshmallow creme to bowl.

  9. When mixed, remove by spoonfuls from bowl.

  10. Press each spoonful into cookie cutter to form shape.

  11. Let shape cool for a minute or so.

  12. Carefully push mixture out of cookie cutter onto waxed paper.

  13. Repeat until all mixture is shaped.

  14. Place waxed paper with shapes in refrigerator or freezer to chill.
